Boys AND girls are invited to participate.  All events will take place at the HS Football Stadium, giving players the experience of playing on a "Big Field".  There will food and lacrosse merchandise for sale and give-aways too!

LAX DAY & DERBY DAY- Request for Volunteers

SLA looking for volunteers for the Shakopee Lacrosse Day & Derby Days activities. Would you be willing to help out with the planning, setup and working at either event?  We'd love to have you join the committees.

Shakopee Lacrosse Day will be Saturday, July 19th.  We'll be having lots of fun games for all ages, skill tests and fun.  Most events will take place at the HS Football Stadium, giving players a great experience for playing on a "Big Field".

Shakopee Derby Days include a Business Expo Thursday, July 31st  where we will have a booth to promote Lacrosse and allow families to sign up for more information for the coming seasons.  There is also a Parade on Sunday, Aug 4th, and we may participate in that if we have enough interest.

For both events we'd like to promote Lacrosse to the community, celebrate with the players and families, and recruit new families to join in the coming years.

Please contact Jennifer Clarke at jclarke@shakopee.k12.mn.us  and/or kari Whetsel at kari.whetsel@gmail.com  if you are interested in volunteering.

Lacrosse Information:

What is Lacrosse?

The sport of lacrosse is a combination of basketball, soccer and hockey. Anyone can play lacrosse - big or small.  The game requires and rewards coordination and agility. Quickness and speed are two highly prized qualities in lacrosse not size.  It's an exhilarating sport that is fast-paced and full of action. Long sprints up and down the field with abrupt starts and stops, precision passes and dodges are routine in men's lacrosse. Lacrosse is played with a stick, the crosse, which is used to scoop, throw, catch and shoot the ball.

Why Play Lacrosse:

  • Fastest game on 2 feet
  • Size does NOT matter
  • Helps you be a more dynamic athlete in other sports
  • Excellent TEAM game
  • Combines many different sports skills
  • Meet new friends
  • It is FUN and challenging!!
  • Fastest growing team sport in the nation

And for the parents....it's a lot of fun to watch!!!

Fun Facts: Did you know Lacrosse is the fastest growing team sport in the United States?  In 2001, the total number of lacrosse players (those who play on organized teams) was 253,931.  In 2011, that number was 684,730 - a 170% increase in a decade.  Youth participation in the sport has grown over 125% since 2001 and no sport has grown faster at the high school level.  The 2009 US Lax Participating Survey states, "Minnesota is one of the quickly-developing lacrosse markets and features nearly 5,000 youth players. That’s an increase of 18.1% over 2008 numbers."

Mission Statement of Shakopee Lacrosse Association:

Mission Statement of Shakopee Lacrosse Association is  introducing lacrosse to the community of all ages so they can discover, learn, participate in, and enjoy lacrosse. To teach players the fundamental skills and techniques that are needed to be successful to succeed on and off the field. The ultimate goal is to make Lacrosse a positive and fun experience for the players, parents, and coaches.
